Maritime-born artist, Lisa Lipton is a multidisciplinary artist and musician who received her B.F.A. from the NSCAD University in 2003, and M.F.A. from the University of Windsor in April 2006. Her installations exemplify a diversity of interest within the arts combining sculpture, video, knitted costume, paint with performances that involve dance and music. Lisa’s expertise as a multi-instrumentalist (violist, pianist, guitarist, drummer, etc.) and participation within the music industry - through her bands i see rowboats, IT KILLS, frankie & the CHICAGO BULLS and DOLPHINS, have come to inform her current exhibitions, collaborations, directorial and curatorial practice. Some of her more recent projects, such as the BLAST BEATS Series & the WINDOW BALLET Series, emphasize her multi-faceted talents, while at the same time locate a forum for the partnership and critique of multiple disciplines within the arts. She has exhibited her work on both a national and international level, most notably within Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Windsor (AGW), the Banff Centre for the Arts, New York, Detroit, Texas, North Carolina, Berlin, and Amsterdam, as well as served as one of the Longlist representatives for the Maritime Provinces within the Sobey Art Awards (2012 & 2013). Over the course of the last three years Lisa has been travelling across North America while participating in a series of residences with her drumming project entitled BLAST BEATS. She recently completed a major tour throughout North America with Phase Three of this project, which will culminate in her first feature film – THE IMPOSSIBLE BLUE ROSE. Lisa is presently residing in Nova Scotia while working on elements of THE IMPOSSIBLE BLUE ROSE that are scheduled for exhibition at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Halifax, NS) and Available Light Screening Collective (Ottawa, ON) in 2014.
